Iran, being a country rich in oil reserves, currently imports 10% of its daily gasoline needs (14 million liters). The Vice President of Iran, Ismail Saghab Esfahani, reported that an average of 135 million liters of gasoline is consumed daily in Iran, of which 121 million is produced domestically and 14 million is imported.
For comparison, Armenia's gasoline consumption is 750-800 thousand liters per day, which is 170 times less than Iran. Iran is currently facing significant difficulties in importing gasoline due to the US maritime blockade and a lack of foreign currency.
Iran buys its gasoline deficit at international prices but sells it to consumers at a subsidized price of 1500 tumans (in Armenian currency), while market prices can reach 3,000 and 5,000 tumans.
Recently, businesses have been allowed to import premium gasoline and sell it at 80,000 tumans (165 Armenian drams) per liter.
The Iranian authorities are suggesting to forget about gasoline imports and allocate one liter of gasoline per day to each citizen at the price of 1500 tumans.
