Belarusian State Standards Committee Bans Import and Sale of ‘Yerevan 2800’ Cognac

The oak component content in the cognac does not meet the standards

The Belarusian State Standards Committee has banned the import, sale, and circulation of the eight-year-aged Armenian cognac ‘Yerevan 2800’. Tests have shown that the content of the oak component in the cognac is significantly below the established standard. The product’s conformity assessment documents have also been declared invalid.

The Belarusian State Standards Committee has classified the eight-year-aged Armenian cognac ‘Yerevan 2800’ as a hazardous product. The cognac produced by ‘MAP’ LLC in the Armavir region does not comply with the technical regulations of the Customs Union.

Almost half of the oak material content was found in the cognac. The ban is based on the results of the tests. The relevant technical regulations for the product set the minimum mass concentration of oak materials at 0.3 g/dm³. In the ‘Yerevan 2800’ sample, this value was 0.14 ± 0.01 g/dm³. This means that the actual content is less than half of the established minimum value.

The State Standards Committee concluded that the product was given the appearance and certain properties of a beverage, but its characteristics did not allow it to be identified as the product for which it was required.
