On August 21, Health Minister Anaid Avanesyan held a meeting with employers to discuss the inclusion of workers with an income below 200,000 drams into the universal health insurance system. The minister presented a preliminary project, according to which a worker with an income below 200,000 drams will have to pay 2,000 drams monthly in 2027, while the remaining 4,400 drams will be subsidized by the state and 4,400 drams by the employer. The goal of this format is to mitigate the sharp increase in financial burden on citizens earning below 200,000 drams by including them in the universal health insurance system.
Representatives of the companies present at the meeting asked the minister dozens of questions and expressed their comments and suggestions. Anaid Avanesyan emphasized the importance of expert community feedback, noting that such meetings are initiated to consider all comments and suggestions at the initial project stage of the reform.
The Ministry notes that such meetings will also be held online until the full implementation of the health insurance system at all stages of its application. The phased introduction of the universal health insurance system in Armenia began in January 2026.
