In 2026, Armenia ranked 65th among 120 countries with a score of 55.2 points, which is 1.3 points lower than the previous year's level in the "Energy Transition Index-2026".
According to the "Luyis" fund, the decline was mainly due to a drop in the sub-index "Readiness for Transition" by 3.3 points and a slight decrease in the sub-index "System Efficiency". Within the sub-index "Readiness for Transition", the most noticeable deterioration was recorded in the "Finance and Investment" section - the score dropped from 59.9 to 51.5 points.
This was caused by a reduction in the indicator "Investments in Clean Energy (% of GDP)", reflecting the volume of investments in renewable energy, nuclear energy, hydrogen technologies, electric transport, and other areas of energy transition.
According to the report, the innovation sector remains one of Armenia's weakest points. In the global ranking, the country dropped 7 positions compared to the previous year and 12 positions compared to 2017, indicating a decline in competitiveness in the field of energy transition.
The average global score from 2017 to 2026 increased by 2.8 points, while Armenia's score decreased by 0.3 points. While in 2017 Armenia exceeded the global average by 0.9 points, by 2026 it lags behind by 2.2 points.
Among Armenia's relatively strong points is the cost of natural gas. However, this factor may lose its significance in the event of changes in external economic conditions.
Overall, it is stated that sustainable progress in the field of energy transition is impossible without improving the investment climate, modernizing infrastructure, stimulating innovation, and developing human capital.
