The economic consequences of the privatization of the "Araratcement" plant may negatively impact the investment climate in Armenia, according to Vage Davtyan, an expert in Caucasian studies. He noted that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement about the upcoming transition of the plant to state ownership continues a process that began in May, when the authorities announced their intention to nationalize the enterprise.
Davtyan reminded that "Araratcement," founded in 1927, is one of two producers of Portland cement in Armenia. He emphasized that after privatization, the plant underwent significant modernization and became a key supplier of cement for the construction sector.
The expert pointed out that revisiting the results of privatization after more than twenty years raises questions about the protection of private property and the stability of the institutional environment, which could negatively affect the country's investment climate.
