Average US Diesel Price Tops $6 a Gallon for the First Time

Reuters said diesel prices in the US are up about 60% from a year earlier.

The average price of a gallon of diesel fuel in the United States, or about 3.7 litres, has exceeded $6 for the first time, Reuters reported, underscoring continued pressure on fuel markets.

Earlier, oil futures rose above $100 a barrel, reaching their highest level since May. That move has added to upward pressure on domestic fuel prices.

According to Reuters, US diesel prices are up about 60% from a year earlier. The increase matters for the broader economy because diesel is widely used in freight transport, agriculture and industry.

Analysts at GasBuddy said the rise in fuel prices is being driven by the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, which continue to weigh on global energy markets.
