US Senate Approves Bill for Stricter Sanctions Against Russia and Iran

The US Senate voted on tightening sanctions

The US Senate voted on a bill to tighten American sanctions against Russia and Iran. The vote was streamed live on the upper chamber's website.

Eight-six senators voted in favor of the measures, while eleven opposed. The House of Representatives is expected to discuss it in September. Some members of Congress may oppose it in the lower chamber due to the proposed tariff increases. This was reported by TASS.

On August 7, lawmakers voted against an amendment that would have stripped the US president of the authority to impose tariffs on countries importing oil or gas from Russia.

Senators voted in favor just before leaving for their summer recess from the US capital on Friday.
