The total number of active drilling rigs for oil and gas in the United States stayed the same this week, according to new data published by Baker Hughes, with the total rig count in the US at 588, up 52 from the same time last year.
The number of active oil rigs fell by 5, sinking to 447 during the latest reporting period, which is 35 above the same time last year. The number of gas rigs rose by 5 to 132, which is 13 more than this time last year.
The latest EIA data showed that weekly U.S. crude oil production rose during the week ending August 21, averaging 13.843 million bpd.
Oil prices were down on Friday, with Brent now trading at $89.36 per barrel.
