Alberta Premier Rejects Using Oil as a Weapon Against Trump

Alberta's Premier warns against using oil exports as a sanction

Alberta's Premier Danielle Smith has rejected the idea of imposing export taxes on crude oil exports to the United States in retaliation for the Trump administration's tariffs against Canada:

Smith stated that such a move would be damaging to Canada’s economy. She warned that using oil exports as a weapon in the trade war could trigger a disproportionate tariff response from the United States:

“I cannot think of a more disastrous policy decision than cutting off or taxing Alberta’s oil to the United States,” Smith said:

Alberta exports about 4 million barrels of crude oil daily to the United States, with a total value of approximately $80 billion last year.
