According to data provided by the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, as of June 2026, the number of employed in Armenia reached 829,231 people, including 223,841 in the public sector and 605,390 in the private sector. It is noteworthy that this represents a 4.1% increase compared to the comparable figure for 2025.
The distribution of employed individuals by institutional sectors of the economy and types of economic activities is as follows:
In June 2026, the largest number of employed individuals in Armenia was in wholesale and retail trade, as well as in the repair of cars and motorcycles, where 140,156 employees were engaged, all in the private sector.
Following this is the education sector, with 128,557 employed, of which 115,183 are in the public sector and 13,374 in the private sector.
Manufacturing – 95,478 employed, all in the private sector.
Health and social services – 57,635 employed, with 27,747 in the public sector and 29,888 in the private sector.
Information and communication – 46,287 employees, of which 2,206 are in the public sector and 44,081 in the private sector. Specifically, in information technology, there are 34,833 employees, with 440 in the public sector and 34,393 in the private sector.
Accommodation and food service activities – 47,156 employed, all in the private sector.
Construction – 45,352 employed, with 326 in the public sector and 45,026 in the private sector.
Public administration and defense, mandatory social security – 41,312 employed, all in the public sector.
Professional, scientific, and technical activities – 32,827 employees, with 7,376 in the public sector and 25,451 in the private sector. Specifically, in research and development, there are 6,893 employed, with 5,641 in the public sector and 1,252 in the private sector.
Financial and insurance activities – 27,078 employed, with 893 in the public sector and 26,185 in the private sector.
Other service activities – 28,109 employees, with 362 in the public sector and 27,747 in the private sector.
Administrative and support service activities – 26,791 employed, with 4,574 in the public sector and 22,217 in the private sector.
Culture, entertainment, and recreation – 25,880 employees, with 10,063 in the public sector and 15,817 in the private sector.
Transportation and storage – 23,502 employees, with 6,364 in the public sector and 17,138 in the private sector.
Electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply – 17,562 employees, with 1,522 in the public sector and 16,040 in the private sector.
Mining and quarrying – 13,872 employed, all in the private sector.
Agriculture, forestry, and fishing – 14,461 employed, with 1,111 in the public sector and 13,350 in the private sector.
Real estate activities – 9,861 employees, with 616 in the public sector and 9,245 in the private sector.
Water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation – 7,355 employed, with 4,186 in the public sector and 3,169 in the private sector.
