In Russia, at least two deaths have been reported in queues at gas stations due to a severe fuel crisis.
In Lisva (Perm Krai), an 80-year-old man died on the evening of July 14 while waiting at a gas station, according to the local publication "Искра". The Ministry of Health of Perm Krai reported that the ambulance crew, which arrived on the scene, performed resuscitation measures, but was unable to save the pensioner. The preliminary cause of death is stated to be heart failure.
Earlier, in Petrozavodsk (Republic of Karelia), a 75-year-old driver died in a queue at a gas station. According to ASTRA, citing eyewitness accounts, the tragic incident occurred near the Republican Hospital. The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the fact of death but did not specify the exact cause.
These deaths in queues occur against the backdrop of a widespread fuel deficit that has affected all of Russia. According to informed sources from Reuters, after drone strikes from Ukraine, Russia lost about 40% of its oil refining capacities. EA Analytics estimates that in July, oil refining volumes decreased to 3.91 million barrels per day, the lowest level since 2005 and 27% lower than last year. Energy Intelligence analysts estimate production even lower at 3.58 million barrels per day, which could be the lowest since 2002.
Currently, according to Energy Intelligence, about 3.1 million barrels of capacity are idle in Russia, and the monthly deficit of petroleum products is estimated at 400,000 to 600,000 tons. Official restrictions on fuel sales have been imposed in more than 40 regions, but according to calculations by The Insider, various limits and bans effectively operate in almost all subjects of Russia, as well as in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
