Ukraine has dealt a significant blow to Russia's energy sector by striking its largest oil refinery, halting operations and damaging key processing units. Gazprom Neft's Omsk refinery, capable of processing 440,000 barrels of oil per day, is now offline, which is particularly painful for the Kremlin.
The attack damaged the CDU-10 crude distillation unit, accounting for about 38% of the refinery's processing capacity. A second major unit, CDU-11, was also shut down but could reportedly return to service sooner.
Russia has begun looking abroad for fuel supplies, an extraordinary reversal for one of the world's largest oil producers.
