NATO Projects Unity as Leaders Rally Behind Ukraine

NATO leaders discuss military support and unity

NATO leaders, despite tensions over Iran and defense spending, emphasized unity during their recent summit. They pledged at least €70 billion in military support for Ukraine and discussed expanding cooperation, including plans for producing Patriot missiles in Ukraine.

During the summit, U.S. President Donald Trump criticized European allies for their defense spending and questioned their loyalty. However, NATO diplomats reported a positive atmosphere during the meeting, with Trump expressing satisfaction with the alliance's unity.

The final summit declaration reiterated that "Iran must never have a nuclear weapon" and called for respect for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The alliance also noted a significant increase in defense spending among its members.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was invited to the summit, and while full membership for Ukraine was not discussed, the declaration acknowledged Ukraine's contribution to transatlantic security.

Overall, the summit highlighted NATO's commitment to supporting Ukraine amid ongoing conflicts and emphasized the importance of unity among member states.
