Microsoft is set to cut 4,800 jobs amid layoffs in the tech sector related to artificial intelligence.
The decision will result in a loss of approximately 2.1% of the company's workforce. In a memo to employees, Microsoft's HR director noted that artificial intelligence is changing the approach to performing certain tasks through automation, but the layoffs are not directly related to this, according to DW.
“I also want to be clear that the positions being cut today are not being replaced by artificial intelligence. However, it is true that artificial intelligence is changing the approach to work,” he is quoted by Reuters.
Journalists add that Microsoft “often cuts jobs at the end of its financial year (which ends in June) as part of preparing budgets for the new year.” As of July 6, Microsoft shares had slightly decreased by just over 1.5%.
