Mamikon Aslanyan announced the initiation of a new criminal case against him

The former mayor claims that the case is a result of political persecution

The former mayor of Vanadzor, Mamikon Aslanyan, announced that a new criminal case has been initiated against him. He stated that this case has been under consideration since 2022, but it was decided to revive it in 2026 after he announced his joining of the "Strong Armenia" party:

Aslanyan wrote on his Facebook page that he was summoned to the Investigative Committee, where he was informed that he was involved in the case as a defendant. He added that he did not provide any testimony during his visit to the investigative body:

He also noted that a preventive measure in the form of bail and a prohibition on absence has been imposed on him. "I lived a normal life until I learned that the case was sent to court. I do not know the details of the case, but I believe it has been separated from my previous case from 2021 to limit my political activity," he stated:

On January 29, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Court sentenced Mamikon Aslanyan to 4 years and 4 months of imprisonment for exceeding official powers and committing service forgery from 2016 to 2021:
