Kremlin May Allow Turkey to Resell Russian S-400s

The Kremlin has announced that it may allow Turkey to sell its Russian-made S-400 missile systems to another country.
"We have had communications with the Turkish side on this issue and will continue discussions," said President Putin's spokesperson today.

Today, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported that Ankara is preparing to sell the S-400 systems purchased from Russia to one of the Gulf countries in order to be able to buy F-35 fighter jets from the United States.

Citing its own sources, the newspaper reported that all details of the deal were agreed upon only last night. Turkish authorities have not yet commented on this information.

In 2019, relations between Turkey and the U.S. sharply deteriorated due to Turkey's purchase of this weapon, leading Washington to exclude its NATO ally from the F-35 program and halt the sale of new fighters.

Since last year, there have been reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan intends to return the systems acquired from Russia to strengthen relations with Washington.

This week, the U.S. president promised in Ankara during the NATO summit to lift the sanctions imposed on Turkey. However, the deal still needs to be approved by Congress, where, according to American media, it may face strong opposition.
