India's $50 billion worth of IPOs at risk

India's IPO market faces risks

Around $50 billion worth of IPOs are set to hit the Indian market this year, but President Donald Trump's call to end the ceasefire with Iran poses a risk to these plans.

India's largest telecom operator Jio Platforms, the National Stock Exchange, and Walmart-owned PhonePe are among the companies planning to list.

The Big Story

After a slow start in 2026, India, one of the busiest IPO markets, was gearing up for a deluge of stock market offerings worth $50 billion. However, U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to end the ceasefire with Iran has put these listing plans at risk.

Indian markets slumped more than 2% in reaction to Trump's announcement, underscoring the growing significance of geopolitical risks in global financial markets.

So far in 2026, Indian IPOs have raised only $4 billion, while the U.S. has already raised $128 billion.

India's largest telecom company Jio Platforms and its biggest exchange, the National Stock Exchange, have filed for IPO papers expected to raise $3.5 billion and $3.1 billion respectively.

This year's IPO lineup also includes several hospital chains.
