In Armenia, economic activity growth accelerated to 8% year-on-year in January-May 2026 (up from 5.7% in the same period of 2025). The industrial sector, which managed to emerge from decline, exhibited double-digit growth and became one of the drivers of economic growth.
According to the final data from the Statistical Committee of Armenia, external trade is still in decline, but not as significantly as last year.
The acceleration in economic activity growth in January-May 2026 was driven by improvements in the annual dynamics of the industrial sector, which rebounded from a 14.1% decline to a 12.2% growth, and a surge in the construction sector from 17.1% to 24.1%.
The energy sector also saw significant acceleration, rising from 3.6% to 9.7%.
Meanwhile, the leading trade sector continues to lose growth momentum, dropping from 4.2% to 1.2%.
The external trade turnover of Armenia in January-May 2026 amounted to 2.95 trillion drams ($7.9 billion), reflecting a 0.1% decline year-on-year.
