YEREVAN, July 8. /ARKA/. Armenia must consider the risks of the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP) project for Iran, said the Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami:
"The issues on the agenda of Armenian-Iranian relations within the framework of the TRIPP project should focus on managing the risks arising from this project and eliminating possible challenges," Shirgholami noted at a press conference:
According to him, the Armenian government has assured that the implementation of this project will not pose any challenges or threats to Iran, including those related to the presence of the United States:
The ambassador believes that it is necessary to develop a mechanism that will allow Armenia to fully realize its potential in unlocking communications:
"At the same time, this mechanism should provide for the management of possible risks associated with the presence of the United States and potential threats to Iran, as well as the development of a clear position and appropriate response to such risks," Shirgholami said:
About the TRIPP project
The head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a joint statement on the framework for implementing the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP) following their meeting on January 13, 2026, in Washington:
The document provides for the launch of a mechanism for forming multimodal transit connectivity through the territory of Armenia, including connecting the main part of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and integrating into the Trans-Caspian Trade Route:
The framework agreement on TRIPP was initialed on May 26 during the visit of the U.S. Secretary of State to Yerevan, and on June 4, the document was signed by Armenia and the U.S.:
On June 3, the Board of Directors of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) approved the establishment of the TRIPP Development Company - a joint venture of the U.S. and Armenia:
The TRIPP Development Company is designed to support trade, transport, and economic development in the Caucasus region, as well as to expand international, intergovernmental, and intragovernmental transport connectivity:
Earlier, Armenian authorities stated that the TRIPP Development Company would receive the initial right to implement the project for a period of 49 years:
It is planned to offer the U.S. 74% of the shares of the joint venture, while Armenia will retain 26%: In case of extending the agreement for another 50 years, the ratio of shares is expected to change:
