Armenia Could Become a Transit Link in Energy - Iranian Ambassador

The Iranian ambassador noted that Armenia could strengthen its energy potential

YEREVAN, July 8. /ARKA/. Armenia could become a unique transit link in the energy sector, said the Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgolami:

“There are new ideas and new plans. If both sides show the necessary political will, then, in my opinion, Armenia will be able to occupy completely new positions in the field of energy resource transit and significantly strengthen its energy potential,” Shirgolami noted at a press conference.

According to him, Armenia borders Iran, which ranks third in the world in oil and gas reserves, while to the north is Russia, also one of the leading energy powers.

Shirgolami believes that this potential, with mutually beneficial cooperation, will allow Armenia to become a unique transit link in the energy sector.

He reminded that Armenia and Iran are negotiating various directions of energy cooperation.

“Discussions and initiatives concern the gas sector, energy, transportation and transit of energy resources, as well as cooperation in the field of petroleum products,” Shirgolami said.
