Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the 'Prosperous Armenia' party, has been arrested, and his home has become the subject of searches by law enforcement agencies.
Earlier, his lawyer, Erem Sargsyan, reported that Tsarukyan is being taken to the Investigative Committee, where a request for his arrest will be considered.
"The charges are very strange and absurd: aiding fraud and money laundering. Tsarukyan should be recognized as a victim, but he has been charged," the lawyer stated.
He added that some Iranian citizens connected to Tsarukyan committed certain abuses, leading to the initiation of criminal cases.
Tsarukyan's defense believes that what is happening has a political undertone.
