Introduction of the 'Parental Hour' Regulation in Armenia

New regulation comes into effect on July 10

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs reports that the 'Parental Hour' regulation will come into effect on July 10.

"What does this mean?

Working parents (including foster parents, adoptive parents, and guardians) can temporarily be absent during the workday to care for their child, participate in parenting, educational processes, or address other important matters in the child's interest.

How will the new regulation work?

The parental hour is provided as follows:

  • For parents with 1 or 2 children under 12 years old — up to 30 minutes per day,
  • For parents with 3 or more children under 12 years old — up to 1 hour per day,
  • For parents of children under 18 years old with severe or profound functional limitations — up to 1 hour per day, regardless of the number of children.

How to use it?

The parental hour is granted based on a written request from the employee, and the employer cannot deny it.

Important to know.

During the use of the parental hour, the employee's basic salary is preserved, and for those paid by the hourly rate, the average salary is maintained (excluding bonuses)," the statement says.
