Apple sues OpenAI alleging trade secret theft

Apple accuses OpenAI of stealing its intellectual property

Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging trade secret theft, claiming that the artificial intelligence lab took Apple's intellectual property to develop its own consumer hardware.

In its legal filing, Apple states that OpenAI has been stealing Apple's trade secrets and confidential information at every level, from its Technical Staff to its Chief Hardware Officer.

This lawsuit marks a shocking reversal for the two companies, which entered into a high-profile partnership in 2024.

Apple alleges that OpenAI's Chief Hardware Officer, Tang Tan, a former Apple vice president, directed Apple employees interviewing at OpenAI to share Apple secrets.

Apple is seeking damages, injunctions, and an order to force OpenAI to stop using its trade secrets.
