Severe storms have left over 620,000 customers in the United States without power. This situation has arisen due to extreme weather in several states in recent days, with some areas experiencing up to 2% of customers without electricity.
More than 623,000 customers across Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Virginia, and Texas were without power.
Michigan and Pennsylvania had the highest share of customers without power, at 2% and 1.7% respectively.
Pennsylvania's PPL Electric Utilities reported that since the storm began, it has restored power to over 130,000 customers, but significant work remains as crews continue to repair extensive damage.
In Michigan, DTE Energy estimates that 85%-90% of impacted customers will be restored by the end of the day.
In New York, crews have restored power to more than 166,800 of the approximately 173,700 customers impacted by extreme weather.
The severe storms followed an extreme heat wave in many parts of the U.S., during which PJM Interconnection, the operator of the largest U.S. electric grid, issued a maximum generation alert.
