The EU market is open for Armenian fish products. The necessary work has been done, and relevant regulations are in place; now companies wishing to export products to the European Union market need to apply to the authorized body — the Food Safety Inspection Body of Armenia, to initiate the process.
At a press conference held at the press center of Armenpress, the head of the Food Safety Inspection Body of Armenia, Tigran Petrosyan, stated that this process is not new; it is the result of many years of work. Today, the government and entrepreneurs have reached a point where they can practically organize the export of Armenian fish products.
“One company has already officially applied to the Food Safety Inspection Body to export Armenian fish products to the EU market, but there are many interested parties. I can say that 97 percent of companies in the fish production sector in the republic are ready to export their products to the EU market,” said Tigran Petrosyan.
Entrepreneurs interested in the EU market must be registered in the EU TRACES system. To do this, they need to submit an application to the Food Safety Inspection Body in either paper or electronic form. Tigran Petrosyan noted that information about the required documents will be published on the Snund.am website.
“There is no complicated process; no special documents are required. These are all the documents that our entrepreneurs already have. After the application is submitted, the inspection body reviews the documents, after which an audit is conducted with the entrepreneurs. If all requirements are met, we register the organization in the TRACES system, where a code is automatically generated and passed on to the entrepreneur. This means that the entrepreneur can export their products to any EU country,” said Tigran Petrosyan.
The code issued by the system is indefinite; however, the inspection body will conduct checks on these entrepreneurs at least once a year.
On July 20, the Food Safety Inspection Body will host 4 experts from the EU. Details regarding the first export batch will be discussed.
